Luckily for you, there is an endless number of restaurants down 17^th, which might make it hard to pick where you want to go. Whether you love Italian, Mexican, Korean, Southwest, or pub food, you have endless choices. I love picking somewhere new every time I go out to eat, but I do have a few favourites that keep me coming back. Una Pizza + Wine will always have my heart for their pizza, drink list, and amazing house made cheesecake with different flavored compote on top every time I go. Cibo is delicious Italian, if you haven’t been, you should add it to your restaurant bucket list (if you enjoy appetizers, I recommend the calamari!) It’s hard to choose my third favourite restaurant, but Anju wins the spot! The lettuce wraps are the best I’ve ever had! All three restaurants are a short walk from each other.

Transportation

My favourite part about the 17 Ave location? Enjoying the perfect proximity to downtown Calgary and C-Train station. It’s an easy walk, bike, or bus to wherever you want to go. There are over 60 bus stops down the strip and it’s an added bonus that Car-To-Go is on almost every corner. With Calgary’s growing cycle network, biking can be an efficient, healthy and environmentally friendly way to get around Calgary. You can secure your bike on provided bike racks around the city, or even bring your bike on the train – just not between rush hour times.

Local Businesses give a city their flavor. The combined presence of Calgary’s many local businesses makes it different from every other city in the world. 17^th Ave has 450 local businesses down the entire strip from local specialty foods and bakeries, specialty coffee shops, restaurants and bars, to clothing stores, boutiques, and markets! The best part about shopping local on 17^th Ave is that there is so much variety to choose from, and every store has its own unique style. Popular places that everyone raves about are Ollia Macarons & Tea (they use local and organic ingredients), Made By Marcus (their ice cream is always so amazing). My favourite little coffee shop with the best coffee (in my opinion) is Analog Coffee. Having a cup of their coffee in the morning is the only way to start the day!

Fitness goals

If the following information doesn’t make you excited to work out, I don’t know what will! Boxing has made it’s rise in the past year, and people seem to be really loving it! If you’ve never heard of Rumble Boxing Studio, YOU NEED TO CHECK IT OUT. This is the coolest way to sweat, and build muscle. It is a “fight club, night club”, where you are boxing in the dark, to awesome music with night club lights shining in the room. They offer boxing classes suitable for all experience levels and the best part is that you only want to try a few classes they are “a no contract, pay as you box, boutique fitness studio. (you can rent boxing gloves as well.)

In a city full of buildings, it’s a nice perk to have parks! Down 17^th there is Tomkins Park, Tomson Family Park and, Humpy Hollow Park. But there are over 20 surrounding parks that are very close!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Red Mile, the name was given to 17^th Ave back in 2004 during The Calgary Flames Stanley Cup playoff run. It gained worldwide attention for the relative lack of violence while thousands of fans celebrated their team’s success. Game day is huge on 17^th Ave (especially during playoffs). Not only will you see “The C of Red” in the Scotiabank Saddledome, but you will also see it in every bar, restaurant and on the streets! Our support is awesome! Not to mention, you are living just down the road from The Saddledome when living on 17^th. Go Flames Go!

The Biggest Outdoor Rodeo In The World

The Calgary Stampede includes 9 rodeo events, 10 days of action and a prize of 2 million dollars! For those of you who don’t know, it is not just a rodeo, it also has a massive midway where you can win prizes, go on rides, watch your favourite artists on the Coca-Cola Stage and explore the many iconic foods that are specially created for The Stampede. Have you ever wanted to step out of your comfort zone and try some crazy foods? Stampede has had many award-winning foods like “The Double Bacon Mac N’ Cheese Dog” which is an entire foot long. The “One Meter Long Sausage”, a “Funnel Cake Poutine” and the “Canadian Bacon Pickle Balls”. They have deep fried everything from Oreos, cheese curds, mashed potatoes, ice cream, Coca-Cola, and everything in-between. Stampede is also famous for the incredible concert lineup they have over the 10 days. You can watch concerts at the Scotiabank Saddledome, The Coca-Cola Stage, or Nashville North. There is also a Stampede Talent Search and a Stampede Show Band! Don’t forget to watch for the fireworks every night when they’re playing at The Grand Stand Show!

Flames Central

How luck are we to have our own NHL team in Calgary? If you are a Flames fan, you have got to move to 17 Ave. Not only is the Saddledome stumbling distance, but the all of 17th Ave gets into the game day spirit! You can go to any restaurant or bar on Game day and fit right in while wearing your jersey. Not to mention places like Boston Pizza offer Flames packages which include a beer, burger, shuttle and tickets!

The Bow

We are so fortunate to live in a city that is as beautiful as it is! I’ve always wanted to go floating down The Bow, and didn’t know it was possible until I found Lazy Day Raft Rentals! You can rent a raft, and set off from their starting point while you and your friends (up to 12 people) raft down The Bow River together until The Peace Bridge, where you will turn off and have transportation back. This is especially fun on our hot days!
